Prof. Dr. Emel Canbay

Introduction

Emel Canbay is an Associate Professor of General Surgery, Istanbul, Turkey. Associate Professor Canbay graduated from the University of Cumhuriyet, Sivas, Turkey. She had also completed postgraduate higher degree, Doctor of Philosophy (University of London, UK). She was trained at Department of General Surgery, Cumhuriyet University, Sivas and Ankara Research & Educational Hospital, Ankara, Turkey as a General Surgeon. She has completed compulsory duty in Iranian border of Turkey, Agri-Patnos.

Then she has been assigned from the Ministry of Health of Turkey as an attending General Surgeon to the Breast Units, Gastrointestinal Surgery, and Accident and Emergency Departments of Istanbul University for four years.

She is the first General Surgeon obtained European Board Certification from Turkey. Following advanced specialty fellowship in the Japan and Korea, for advanced disease management, minimally invasive surgery and endoscopic submucosal dissections, she has been visited surgeon to Medstar Washington Hospital Center, Peritoneal Surface Oncology, USA.

She is fully trained in peritonectomy procedures and intraperitoneal chemotherapy applications, minimally invasive procedures with laparoscopy and robotic surgery and endoscopic interventions.

She has authored or co-authored more than 50 articles and textbook that is recently published by Springer entitled as ‘’Peritoneal Surface Malignancies: A Curative Approach’’ and approximately 1000 citations. She is a President of a nonprofit organization for management of peritoneal surface malignancies in Istanbul, Turkey, since 2013.
